Foreign school-leaving certificate

In Saxony, the State Office for Schools and Education (LaSuB) is responsible for the recognition of foreign school-leaving qualifications.

Recognition must be applied for at the LaSuB. Relevant school certificates and officially certified translations are required for the examination. Language courses or similar completed in Germany may also be relevant. The applicant will receive a notification of the result of the examination.

The recognition procedure costs between €35 and €675, depending on the administrative costs. The costs may be covered by the Federal Employment Agency or the Jobcenter. This must be requested before submitting the application. Subsequent assumption of the costs is not possible.

ATTENTION: When processing applications, the LaSuB also takes into account the urgency of the recognition, e.g. for the start of an apprenticeship that is due to begin soon. Accordingly, the reasons for recognition should be stated when submitting the application.

Please note: Universities are entitled to decide for themselves whether to recognize foreign educational qualifications as university entrance qualifications. State recognition of a foreign school-leaving certificate is not a prerequisite for studying.
