Tolerated persons are entitled to financial support and benefits to cover their living expenses and other basic needs. This also applies if they are in training.
ATTENTION: Training requires that you are not subject to a work ban.
As financial support for school education or during a course of study, tolerated persons may be able to receive benefits from the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG). This requires a prior residence period of 15 months.
You can find out more about BAföG here.
Tolerated persons can receive asylum seeker benefits to secure their livelihood throughout their vocational training, school education or studies.
During the first 36 months of their stay, they are entitled to basic benefits. After that, the level of benefits is based on normal social assistance. If the training salary is not sufficient to cover the cost of living in the case of company-based training, there is an entitlement to asylum seeker benefits. This also applies to school-based training or studies if, for example, BAföG is not sufficient.
The vocational training allowance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe - BAB) is a support measure of the Federal Employment Agency for people in training. The training must be vocational training. It is available to tolerated persons after 15 months of residence . If the BAB is not sufficient, supplementary asylum seeker benefits are possible.
Further information on BAB can be found here.
