Asylum seekers are entitled to financial support and benefits to cover their living expenses and other basic needs. This also applies if they are in training.

As financial support during school education or during a course of study , people with a residence permit may be able to receive benefits from the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG). However, this is only possible if the person has already resided in Germany for 5 years and has been gainfully employed during this time or if one parent has fulfilled this requirement for a total of 3 years during the last 6 years.

You can find out more about BAföG here.

Persons with a residence permit can receive asylum seeker benefits to secure their livelihood throughout their vocational training, school education or studies .

During the first 36 months of their stay, they are entitled to basic benefits. After that, the level of benefits is based on normal social assistance. If the training salary is not sufficient to cover the cost of living in the case of company-based training, there is still an entitlement to asylum seeker benefits.
