Guide for newly immigrated families and parents

Participation in education and equal educational opportunities are of central importance for successful integration. A successful educational process lays the foundation for career prospects and thus for successful future opportunities. However, the German care and education system generally differs from the education systems in other countries.

In addition to cultural peculiarities and the existence of different personal educational biographies, language barriers often make it difficult for those involved in the educational process to communicate successfully. As a result, parents lack basic information about the structures and processes of daycare or school life. In order to ensure equal opportunities and opportunities for participation right from the start, newly immigrated families and parents must be informed as quickly as possible about the available forms and offers of education as well as the framework conditions of education. The educational guides for nurseries and schools are intended to take on precisely this task.

As part of the project, two handouts were developed that provide neutral information about the German childcare and education system, particularly with regard to the framework conditions in the district of Central Saxony. The guides are written in simple language to enable parents and families to find their way around quickly and easily. The translation was made possible by dedicated volunteer language mediators in cooperation with the Service Center for Language and Integration Mediators and Community Interpreting Services.
